Prima Materia came about as a visual expression of what I had learned in the sciences, philosophy, mythology, anthropology, history, literature, mathematics, and art. I photographed actual objects on a tabletop, using black & white film, printed the images in the darkroom as traditional silver prints, and finally, applied translucent paint to the surface of the black and white prints. These images have not been manipulated via Photoshop. All objects seen in the photographs were present at the time the shutter made the image. While creating this work, my meditative mindset served to solidify my understanding of the subject matter.
